Tiramisu Pudding Cups

Ingredients

For the Cream Layer

  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1 cup mascarpone cheese
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

For the Coffee Soak

  • 1 cup strong brewed coffee, cooled
  • 1 tbsp sugar
  • 1 tbsp coffee liqueur (optional)

For the Base & Finish

  • 12 ladyfingers, broken into pieces
  • Cocoa powder, for dusting

How to Make Tiramisu Cups

1) Make the Coffee Layer

  1. Brew strong coffee and let it cool completely to room temperature.
  2. Mix in the sugar until dissolved.
  3. Stir in coffee liqueur, if you’d like a more traditional tiramisu flavor. Set aside.

2) Whip the Mascarpone Cream

  1. In a large bowl, whip the heavy cream until stiff peaks form.
  2. In a separate bowl, beat the mascarpone with powdered sugar and vanilla until smooth.
  3. Gently fold the whipped cream into the mascarpone mixture until airy and fully combined.

3) Assemble the Layers

  1. Add a layer of broken ladyfingers to the bottom of each serving cup.
  2. Spoon coffee mixture over the ladyfingers—so they’re soaked but not mushy.
  3. Add a layer of mascarpone cream.
  4. Repeat the layers, ending with the cream on top.

4) Chill, Finish, and Serve

  1. Cover each cup and refrigerate for at least 2 hours (overnight is best for deeper flavor).
  2. Right before serving, dust with cocoa powder.

Variations to Try

  • Flavored mascarpone cream: Swap vanilla for almond or hazelnut extract for a new aroma.
  • Chocolate boost: Add a thin layer of chocolate ganache or melted chocolate between cream layers.
  • Fruit layer: Include fresh berries or sliced bananas for a bright, sweet contrast.
  • Different spirits: Replace coffee liqueur with rum or amaretto for a new twist.
  • Dairy-free option: Use coconut cream and a dairy-free mascarpone alternative for a vegan-friendly version.

Tips for the Best Results

  • Don’t over-soak the ladyfingers: A quick soak (or light spooning) prevents a soggy base.
  • Chill longer for better flavor: The dessert tastes more balanced after several hours; overnight is ideal.
  • Use clear cups: Glasses or clear dessert cups highlight the beautiful tiramisu layers.
  • Sift cocoa at the last minute: This keeps it fresh and prevents clumps.
  • Adjust portion size: Smaller cups work well for dessert samplers or parties.

Storage Instructions

  • Cover well: Use lids or plastic wrap to keep the cups from absorbing fridge odors.
  • Refrigerate: Store for 3–4 days in the refrigerator; the flavor often improves over time.
  • Freeze (optional): Freeze in airtight containers for up to 1 month (texture may change slightly after thawing).
  • Thaw safely: Defrost overnight in the refrigerator—avoid thawing at room temperature for food safety.
