Potato fritters

Ingredients

  • 2 large potatoes, peeled and grated
  • 1 small onion, finely diced
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 egg, lightly beaten
  • Vegetable oil, for frying
  • Sour cream or applesauce, for serving (optional)

Prep & Cook Time

  • Total time: About 25 minutes

Instructions

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine the grated potatoes, onion, garlic, flour, salt, black pepper, and beaten egg. Mix thoroughly until everything is evenly distributed.
  2. Warm a large skillet over medium heat and pour in enough vegetable oil to reach roughly 1/4 inch (about 0.5 cm) deep.
  3. Spoon portions of the mixture into the hot oil, then gently press each mound down with a spatula to form small patties.
  4. Fry for 2–3 minutes per side, or until the fritters are deep golden and crisp.
  5. Remove with a slotted spoon and place on a paper towel–lined plate to drain excess oil.
  6. Serve hot, with sour cream or applesauce if desired.
