Time & Yield

  • Prep Time: 15 minutes
  • Cook Time: 25 minutes
  • Total Time: 40 minutes
  • Servings: 12 rolls

Ingredients

  • 1 sheet puff pastry, thawed
  • 1 lb (450 g) ground sausage (or pre-cooked sausages, chopped)
  • 1 cup shredded cheese (cheddar, mozzarella, or a blend)
  • 1 tsp dried Italian herbs (or oregano)
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
  • 1 tbsp sesame seeds or poppy seeds (optional)
  • Flour, for dusting

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven
Preheat to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

  2. Cook and season the sausage

    • If using raw ground sausage, cook it in a skillet over medium heat until browned and fully cooked.
    • Drain excess fat and let it cool slightly.
    • In a bowl, combine sausage with shredded cheese, Italian herbs, and garlic powder.
  3. Roll out the puff pastry
Lightly flour your surface, then roll the pastry into a 12 × 10 inch (30 × 25 cm) rectangle.

  4. Add filling and roll
Spread the sausage-cheese mixture evenly over the pastry, leaving about a 1-inch border on one long edge. Roll tightly into a log (jelly-roll style). Brush a little beaten egg along the border to seal.

  5. Slice into rolls
With a sharp knife, cut into 12 even pieces, about 1 inch thick each.

  6. Egg wash and topping
Arrange rolls cut-side up on the baking sheet. Brush tops with beaten egg and sprinkle with sesame or poppy seeds if using.

  7. Bake
Bake for 20–25 minutes, until golden brown, puffed, and bubbling.

  8. Cool briefly and serve
Rest for a few minutes before serving so the cheese sets slightly. Serve warm for the best flavor and texture.

Serving Suggestions

  • Offer easy dips like marinara, honey mustard, or spicy mayo.
  • Turn it into a light meal by pairing with a crisp green salad.
