One Hour Dinner Rolls

Ingredients

  • 1 cup warm water (110°F / 45°C)
  • 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast (1 packet)
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted (plus extra for brushing)
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 3 to 3 1/4 cups all-purpose flour

Instructions

  1. Bloom the yeast
In a large mixing bowl, stir together the warm water, yeast, and sugar. Leave it for 5–10 minutes, until the surface looks foamy and active.

  2. Make the dough
Mix in the melted butter, egg, and salt. Add the flour gradually, about 1 cup at a time, until a soft dough forms.

  3. Knead until smooth
Knead for 5–7 minutes by hand or with a mixer, until the dough becomes smooth, stretchy, and elastic.

  4. First rise
Cover the bowl with a clean towel and let the dough rest in a warm spot for 15–20 minutes, or until slightly puffed.

  5. Shape the rolls
Divide the dough into 12 equal portions and roll each piece into a smooth ball. Arrange them on a greased baking sheet or in a 9×13-inch (23×33 cm) pan.

  6. Second rise
Cover the rolls and let them rise again for 15 minutes, until noticeably lighter.

  7. Bake
Heat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Bake for 12–15 minutes, until the tops are golden brown.

  8. Finish with butter
As soon as they come out of the oven, brush the tops with melted butter for extra softness and rich flavor.

Serve these warm dinner rolls for a cozy, homemade addition to your table.
