Ham and Cheese Puff Pastry Pinwheels

Ingredients

  • 1 sheet puff pastry (thawed if frozen)
  • 6–8 slices ham (thinly sliced)
  • 1 cup shredded cheese (cheddar, mozzarella, or a blend)
  • 1 egg (for egg wash)
  • 1 tbsp Dijon mustard (optional, for extra flavor)
  • 1/2 tsp Italian seasoning or dried parsley (optional, for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Heat the oven

    • Preheat to 375°F (190°C).
    • Line a baking tray with parchment paper.
  2. Roll out the pastry

    • On a lightly floured surface, roll the puff pastry into a neat rectangle.
  3. Add flavor and filling

    • Spread a thin layer of Dijon mustard over the pastry (if using).
    • Lay the ham slices evenly across the surface.
    • Scatter the shredded cheese over the ham in an even layer.
  4. Roll into a log

    • Starting from a long side, roll the pastry up tightly to form a log.
    • Press the seam gently to seal.
  5. Chill for cleaner slices

    • Refrigerate the log for 10–15 minutes to help it firm up.
  6. Cut pinwheels

    • With a sharp knife, slice into 1/2-inch (about 1.25 cm) rounds.
  7. Brush and season

    • Place pinwheels on the prepared baking sheet with space between them.
    • Beat the egg and brush the tops with egg wash.
    • Sprinkle with Italian seasoning or dried parsley if you like.
  8. Bake until golden

    • Bake for 15–20 minutes, or until the pinwheels are puffed and golden brown.
  9. Serve

    • Cool for a few minutes, then serve warm or at room temperature. Perfect as an appetizer, snack, or party bite.
