Soft Homemade Dinner Rolls
These soft, buttery dinner rolls come together quickly and bake up golden and fluffy—perfect for serving warm alongside any meal.

Ingredients
- 1 cup warm water (110°F / 45°C)
- 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast (1 packet)
- 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted (plus extra for brushing)
- 1 large egg
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 3 to 3 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
Instructions
-
Bloom the yeast
In a large mixing bowl, stir together the warm water, yeast, and sugar. Leave it for 5–10 minutes, until the surface looks foamy and active. -
Make the dough
Mix in the melted butter, egg, and salt. Add the flour gradually, about 1 cup at a time, until a soft dough forms. -
Knead until smooth
Knead for 5–7 minutes by hand or with a mixer, until the dough becomes smooth, stretchy, and elastic. -
First rise
Cover the bowl with a clean towel and let the dough rest in a warm spot for 15–20 minutes, or until slightly puffed. -
Shape the rolls
Divide the dough into 12 equal portions and roll each piece into a smooth ball. Arrange them on a greased baking sheet or in a 9×13-inch (23×33 cm) pan. -
Second rise
Cover the rolls and let them rise again for 15 minutes, until noticeably lighter. -
Bake
Heat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Bake for 12–15 minutes, until the tops are golden brown. -
Finish with butter
As soon as they come out of the oven, brush the tops with melted butter for extra softness and rich flavor.
Serve these warm dinner rolls for a cozy, homemade addition to your table.
